How it Works

Congratulations, this is a big step! But before you get started creating your organization, review the currently registered organizations in GatorConnect, search for any existing organization that has a similar purpose, goal, or name. If no student organization currently exists, awesome, then you can follow the steps below to create an organization.

Note: Registration for new student organizations is open semesterly.
The upcoming registration cycle for the 2024-2025 academic year will open in July 2024 and close August 30th.

Let's Get started

All Registered Student Organizations must Have:

Unique Organization Name

Unique and identifiable - cannot contain University of Florida, UF or Gators - with a defined mission and purpose

Eligible Officers and Members

Minimum 10 members, three of whom will serve as either President, Vice President, or Treasurer (full-time currently enrolled University of Florida Students)

Advisor

A full-time, salaried faculty or staff member at the University of Florida

Constitution

Reviewed and approved file that meets the University of Florida Constitution Requirements

Process for Creating A New Student Organization


STEP 1: Complete a New Student Organization Proposal Form through GatorConnect

  • Make sure you have all four of the above required items for all registered student organizations. An Advisor will review your proposal and connect with you if there are any questions.

STEP 2: After approval of the New Student Organization Proposal Form, the organization will be asked to:

  • Attend a Constitution Consultation meeting with a Community & Belonging advisor
  • Complete Student Organization Officer Training, virtually via myTrainings (Required for eligible officers holding President, Vice President, Treasurer roles)
  • Complete the Online Hazing Module: Hazing Prevention 101™ Course – College Edition (Required for eligible officers holding President, Vice President, Treasurer roles)
  • Ensure the Advisor Verification Form is submitted by the listed advisor (eligibility requirements apply)
  • If classified as a University Sponsored Student Organization, the completion of the annual MOU for registration and recognition by an eligible department/college senior leader.
  • Complete Electronic Registration
    1. Final Submission of an Approved Constitution based on the University of Florida constitution requirements

    • Regular use of University facilities (per University policies and regulations)
    • Ability to apply for office, locker, or mailbox space in the Reitz Union
    • Ability to request funds from Student Government (SG) if SG policies and criteria are met
    • Access to staff advisor and eligible University resources for support
    • Eligible to utilize SG Graphics & Copy Center
    • Eligible to apply for a Catering Scholarship for events
    • Eligible to participate in Student Organization Fairs
    • Recognition in annual Involvement Awards, and other featured programs
    • Provided Professional Development and Leadership Training
