How it Works
Congratulations, this is a big step! But before you get started creating your organization, review the currently registered organizations in GatorConnect, search for any existing organization that has a similar purpose, goal, or name. If no student organization currently exists, awesome, then you can follow the steps below to create an organization.
Note: Registration for new student organizations is open semesterly.
The upcoming fall 2026 registration cycle will open on July 15, 2026 and close August 28, 2026.
Let's Get started
All registered Student Organizations must have:
Unique Organization Name
Unique and identifiable - cannot contain University of Florida, UF or Gators - with a defined mission and purpose
Eligible Officers and Members
Minimum 10 members, four of whom will serve as President, Vice President, Treasurer, and a fourth officer position
Constitution
Reviewed and approved file that meets the University of Florida Constitution Requirements
Advisor (USSOs)
University Sponsored Student Organizations are required to have a student organization advisor. For more information about the updated advisor requirements, please visit our advisor website here.
Process for Creating a New Student Organization
STEP 1: Submit a registration through GatorConnect
- Make sure you have all four of the above required items for all registered student organizations. A Student Engagement staff member will review your registration and connect with you.
STEP 2: After approval of the New Student Organization Registration submission, the organization will be asked to:
- All student organization Presidents, Vice Presidents, and Treasurers must meet officer eligibility requirements found here: Registered Student Organization Classification and Officer Eligibility
- Attend a Constitution Consultation meeting with a Community & Belonging advisor
- Complete Student Organization Officer Training, virtually via myTrainings (Required for eligible officers holding President, Vice President, Treasurer, and the fourth additional officer roles)
- Complete the Online Hazing Module: Hazing Prevention 101™ Course – College Edition (Required for eligible officers holding President, Vice President, Treasurer, and the fourth additional officer roles)
- Ensure the Advisor Verification Form (USSOs) or the optional Volunteer Advisor Verification Form (GRSOs) is submitted by the listed advisor (eligibility requirements apply)
- If classified as a University Sponsored Student Organization, the completion of the annual MOU for registration and recognition by an eligible department/college senior leader.
- Final Submission of an Approved Constitution based on the University of Florida constitution requirements
Benefits of being a registered organization
- Regular use of University facilities (per University policies and regulations)
- Ability to apply for office, locker, or cabinet space in the Reitz Union
- Ability to request funds from Student Government (SG) if SG policies and criteria are met
- Access to staff advisor and eligible University resources for support
- Eligible to utilize SG Graphics & Copy Center
- Eligible to apply for a Catering Grant for events
- Eligible to participate in Student Organization Fairs
- Recognition in annual Involvement Awards, and other featured programs
- Provided Professional Development and Leadership Training
